Me At Jerry Ghionis Photography Workhshop

Last Wednesday (4-6-11), I attended “Jerry Ghionis” photography workshop. If you don’t know who “Jerry Ghionis” is, he is the “Michael Jordan” of wedding photography. He has been photographing weddings for over 17 years and has won every award that “WPPI” (Wedding And Portrait Photographer International) has to offer. If you were into basketball, wouldn’t you rather learn how to improve your basketball skills from “Michael Jordan”? That’s why I went to “Jerry’s” workshop because I wanted to learn from the “Mr. Jordan” of “Wedding Photography”.

Before “Jerry’s” workshop started, there was trade show where different photography vendors had setup their tables. One the vendors were “Bay Photo”.  I have used them for my loose prints in the past and I was curious about their wedding albums quality. So, I looked at few of their wedding albums and I must say the quality was “NICE”!!! I think I found myself new wedding album vendor!!! After leaving the “Bay Photo” table, I went over to “Smugmug” table. I have used “Smugmug” for my online ordering. I must say they are the best at what they do. They totally hooked me up with a bag, camera strap, and other goodies.

As soon as I went into the workshop room, I felt like I was in the “Club”. The music (party music) was pumping.  I was like oh…yeah… Let’s get this party started!!!

Few minutes later, Jerry came in and started his presentation. And he had my full attention and everyone else’s as well. Here is the picture (taken by my “Droid X” phone with no flash. Don’t hate…) of people listening to him:

Throughout his presentation he talked about how to get your clients to give you the expressions and poses you want, how to think outside the box and take risks, and how to enhance your creativity.

There was one thing that he said that REALLY hit home for me. That was – To become a better photographer, you have to become better person.

If you think about that statement, it REALLY makes sense. When you take a photograph what are you really doing, you are expressing your mental state at the time the photograph is taken. So, if you are feeling negative at that time, guess what will show up in your photographs. NEGATIVITY!!! If you are happy and having fun when photographing, then those emotions will show up in your photographs. Its simple is that.

Before I left the workshop, I had to take a photo (taken by my “Droid X” phone with no flash) with “Mr. Jordan (Jerry)”. Here it is

Be Hold – Power Of Webinar

Nowadays, everyone is so busy with life doing this and that. That they don’t have a lot of free time do what they want. Also, being that everything is computerized. I ask myself: how I (wedding and portrait photographer) can help my clients save time. The time that they can use to do whatever they want. Like go to the movies, dinner, and etc. I am really excited to tell you about the power of “WEBINAR”. How it has saved my clients boat load of time.

Politicians Spam People For Votes Nowadays

I am just curious if anyone else is getting a little annoyed  of receiving these flyers in the mail about voting. I am averaging about 6 to 8 a day; including Saturday!!!  I understand that these politicians want to get our votes.  Just so “they” can get reelected or get elected.

What I don’t understand is – rather than asking their voters politely to vote for them by sending a flyer once a week instead of “SPAMMING” their  voters with flyers after flyers and voice mail after voice mail daily.  If we leave it up to these politicians, they would probably pass a law that states: mail will run on “Sunday” 4 to 6 weeks  prior to election.  Just so they can “SPAM” people.

Just like there is “SPAM” filter in the emails, I wish there was a “SPAM” filter for paper mail. That way my shredder could get some rest.  Right now, that bad boy is working some serious overtime.

Just because they are politicians, what rights do they have to “SPAM” people for their own personal  objective??? They are not above the law or are they???

Passion Vs Fear – Who will win?

What are you afraid of the most? Why are you afraid of that? What is causing you to be afraid of that? Are you good enough? Can you do it own your own? These are the questions I ask myself when I decided to become a photographer.

Little Voice In My Head Told Me To Do It

After I graduated from high school, I started hearing these voices in my head every time I was faced with a problem that I didn’t know how to solve. One voice would say, don’t do it. It will be ok. It’s not going to get you anything or anywhere. Second voice told you can do it. You will feel great and be proud of yourself after you do it. I promise. I felt like I was caught in the middle of the voice battle. I was caught in those battles so many times that I gave the voices names. I call them “Lazy Mark” and “Hero Mark”.

Build Your Brand By Keeping Your Promise

When I was 10 years old, I promised my friend that I would let him ride my bike if he helped me with my homework. He helped me with my homework and I changed my mind about letting him ride my bike. So, what did he do? He told my dad about our little deal. That day I learned a very valuable lesson about promising and branding form my dad.

How I Got Into Computers

Once someone asked me how a kid learns how to walk, my respond was “move forward one step at a time”. That’s exactly how I got into computers – learning one new skill at a time.
